City Is Getting Its Life Back
I set the alarm for 5.30 am. But, my eyes opened at 5.20 am. With a prayer started an exciting day. Our bags were packed, clothes kept ready and with the ticking of the clock excitement was building up. The morning chores were done, my daughter woke up with the same excitement as me and got ready within minutes.
No, we did not get ready for a mother daughter trip. We were ready to resume school after 18 months. Amidst the peak of the pandemic we moved cities and started new school in online mode. So, the last time my daughter went to school she was a pre teen but now as a teenager she had her own reasons to be excited. As a mother I felt like my daughter was getting ready for pre school. Both of us were experiencing the same emotions of welcoming something new with a sense of familiarity. We have got accustomed to the new city as much as possible, but we are completely unaware about how the school classrooms are and how the classmates will be offline. As parents we decided to give consent because we have trust in our child who we know will be responsible and follow safety norms, we trust the school authorities to take all measures and most importantly we trust God.
We reached the school gates much before time and my daughter entered the school with a spring in her feet. Who says kids don't like school??? Today, it hit me harder realizing how much kids have missed the open gates of schools. Every teenager entering the school did it with joy and the teachers welcomed them with warmth and smiles.
After 3 hours when I went back to pick her up just as I used to do when she was a toddler, I was overjoyed to see her so excited and eager to share every moment of her last 3 hours. Students definitely need their peer group and teachers in person to make their days meaningful. I feel grateful that I could capture the look on her face and the excitement in her voice in my heart where it will be preserved lifelong.
The city is crawling back to LIFE as the school gates slowly open and school buses start plying with its noisy occupants.
Bye COVID.......dont come back ever, anywhere in the world in any form.
So cute da .. Really...i always say.. These are very rare times when kids are asking parents to send them to school and it's the parents who wish they stayed home longer.... Can't wait for them so to resume their lives the way they deserve to. Enough with this holing up. Here's looking ahead to 'clearer skies, unclipped wings and endless flights of freedom'!!! ๐๐ป๐๐ป❤️
ReplyDeleteFelt as if it came from my heart. Was super excited about the new beginning , as we all wanted it for so long. Was having some fear although but my son's happiness after returning from school gave a lot of confidence. Just pray for a normal life for all of us.
