Sisterhood

On this beautiful day dedicated to woman across the world, I felt it appropriate to write on a very important relationship we woman share, that of sisterhood. Thankfully I am blessed to enjoy this relationship by being a sister and by having many sisters to look upto for inspiration and support.
First on the list is my own dearest sister from whom I have learnt a lot. She assumed the role of a protector since the day we lost our father and till date I feel the comfort of her protection in every situation. When she is around I do not have to worry about taking any decision as she knows what needs to be done in the best interest of all. We do have our sibling disagreements even today but what is the joy of being a sister if there are no fights over clothes and stationery and trivial matters. Not only I look upto her for inspiration but every friend of mine since school days looks upto her till date. The respect they have for Lakshmidi fills me with pride till date. She was always way ahead of me in academics and extra curricular activities but that never made me insecure or competitive but only inspired me and continues to do so.
Being born in a family  where girl power has been stronger, all my sisters are an indispensable part of my life. With each cousin living across the world the one thing that has remained intact is our strong bond and our comfort to reach out to each other in good and not so good times. Any topic under the sun we sisters can discuss for hours, from juicy gossip of film stars to our fears, issues related to parenting, cooking, aging aches and pains and of course nostalgic days of childhood. My salute to all my very loving sisters without whom life will have no spice at all.
My sisterly love exchange is also very warm with all my sisters in law. Each one has influenced my life with their warmth and love and am forever grateful to them for it.
Sisterhood I have learnt from the bond my mother and her sisters share, the bond my mom in law and her sisters share. The beauty of the sisterhood of the previous generation is that I have been able to establish a connect with them and definitely see a reflection of my mother in my Periamma and each of my Chittis. For me chatting with them is as therapeutic and comforting as chatting with amma is.
The essence of sisterhood cannot be possible without the support given by all the male members of every family, who have empowered the women in the family to support and love each other unconditionally. (There are multiple reasons for me to say this which I reserve for another blog post.)
Till then enjoy and share your sentiments about your sisters.

  1. She would hold my hand while we crossed roads, take ownership of managing the small money, buy ice lollies.....there are many more memories as we grew up together amongst many life's turmoils...she is a mom today but still my younger "wiser" of the two sister

  2. Vidu....very sentimental but true to life....they say..."Of two sisters one is always the watcher, one the dancer."..."Lakshmidi" has been the watcher...Here is too all of us as we share laughter and wipe each other's tears and regale over a childhood only we all share....

    1. A perfect write up about sisterhood from none other than my very own 'soul sister'!!

Indeed, sisterhood can be such a powerful combo of gentle care, loving hugs, unspoken eternal companionship, constant guiding, goading, constructive critiques, oodles of mutual respect and adoring, endless madness and a lifetime of support! Lovely! 🥰🥰

  3. So well put. It is a very special relationship we share with our "sisters" (definition of this term is re-invented by our lives). The person whom we accept as a sister, the ones who are sisters by relation, all have a specific place and position in our hearts !! 🤗🥰

Best part is sister's sort it on their own. No complaints. This made worry free life. Respect and love is very strong . All of you are blessed with beautiful people around you. God bless.
