Life & Death

Chuck Palahniuk, the American journalist and novelist, the author of the famous book Fight Club said, " We all die. The goal is not to live forever, the goal is to create something that will." Such depth and truth in his words. This is how one must live life and celebrate everyone else's life too. Apart from the numerous lessons 2020 has taught us it has also taught us that we all are very resilient human beings. I say this because I have witnessed how wonderfully many of my friends who have lost a very dear one this year are celebrating the life of the departed soul instead of mourning it. This is real resilience of a person and most of us have this in abundance in us and our grooming has been responsible for our increased adversity quotient. Death, is a topic hardly discussed in our homes. The moment someone mentions death others rebuke him/her for talking nonsense. But, how can the ultimate truth of life be considered as nonsense? What to do??

Outside an icecream parlour are standing 6 teenagers arguing whether to enter the icecream shop or walk across the road to chat over cups of coffee. They flipped a coin to decide and entered the icecream parlour. On stepping inside teenager 1 placed an order for his forever favourite Death by Chocolate, Teen 2 tasted all the flavours that was available and choose a Banana Split Sundae, Teen 3 tells the guy at the counter that any flavour of his choice is good for him, Teen 4 and 5 jointly choose milkshake with icecream to enjoy both Teen 6 is still thinking and deliberating which icecream to order by when all the others have licked theirs to their heart's content. Our life is like this icecream shop displaying choices for everyone at every step. Some of us find it very tough to make our choices,  some are very clear about their choices from the beginning  and some repeat choices. Choosing from available resources is the art of decision making. A necessary skill everyone must b...

During my college days I was very fascinated by this term and tried to incorporate it in my life. I would listen to music on the radio as I would solve accountancy problems. I felt very proud to be a multi tasker and also took great pride in the fact that being a women  I could multi task better than men. But, soon when I attended a talk by the Principal of a school in Pune who addressed the parents of that school I realized that multi tasking results in drop in productivity by nearly 40%. That is when I understood that the real cause for my not so satisfactory academic performance was due to my multi tasking. The principal explained to the parents that they must invest in time with their children and their academics and while teaching children they must not engage in any other activity like cutt...
